A couple of days ago I purchased a pomegranate from the grocery store, even though I had no idea what to do with it. I knew it had something to do with the seeds… They’re just so pretty and weird-looking. So, after years of intrigue, I decided to satisfy my curiosity.
After scanning through the Wikipedia page (pomegranates have an interesting history) dedicated to the fruit, I felt confident enough to just slice into it. I got squirted in the face a couple of times, but it was so worth it. It just tastes good for you. And it was quite fun to dig out the seeds. Just peeling away one thin layer of pith reveals a cluster of the tart, juicy, crunchy, potent seeds. Is it a coincidence that pomegranates are in season just as flu season starts? I think not.
